Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) K9 Roam, the agency's first firearms detection dog, retired in January 2026 following a grave line-of-duty stabbing in October 2025. After losing a leg to injuries sustained during the arrest of a suspect, Roam made a remarkable recovery and now lives with his handler.
Hurricane’s Heroes will have a booth at this event.
Fun fact - K9 Roam’s “brother” Milo also retired from CSPD and is sponsored by K9HH.

Come hang with retired working dogs
K9 Hurricane’s Heroes, a federally recognized, non-profit organization, provides “retired law enforcement and military dogs” with subsidized veterinary care. Often these incredible dogs are the unsung heroes behind the operations put in place to keep us safe.
Typically when a working dog retires the cause is due to illness or injury, and all of the day-to-day care and medical bills become their Handler’s responsibility. To ensure these heroes live a long and happy retirement we want to remove the burden from the Handlers and let their job simply be to give their partners the best life possible. After years of service, these “working dogs” deserve to have long and enjoyable retirements, as just “dogs”. Hurricane’s Heroes is a fully volunteer based organization.
Since our launch in August 2020, K9HH has sponsored 160 retired working dogs through the Paws of Honor Veterinary Care Program from USSS, TSA, Customs & Border Patrol, Local PD, State Police, Capitol Police, DOD, DIA, DOS, CIA, NGA, Army, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard & Air Force.
