K9 Hurricane is a former Special Operations Canine of the United States Secret Service.
K9 Hurricane is a 15 year old Belgian Malinois recognized for his bravery and valor, with an all black coat and 4 titanium teeth.*
K9 Hurricane joined the USSS Emergency Response Team Tactical Canine Unit in November of 2012 and retired after four years of service.
In 2014, K9 Hurricane neutralized an intruder on the White House lawn while the President was inside with the First Family. This earned Hurricane the United States Secret Service Award for Merit and the Department of Homeland Security Award for Valor.
He also made history as the first US dog to receive the PDSA Order of Merit at British Parliament and the Animals in War and Peace Distinguished Service Medal at the US Capitol, landing him in Guinness Book of World Records in 2023.
Despite retiring early due to the heroic incident, his commitment to service has persisted. A nonprofit was founded in Hurricane’s name called K9 Hurricane’s Heroes, which provides veterinary care for retired working dogs nationwide with the hope of ensuring these heroes live long and healthy lives. Which is exactly what Hurricane has done.
Hurricane was laid to rest on February 12th, 2025, at almost 16yrs of age. Thank you Hurricane for your dedicated service. You are greatly missed but your legacy lives on long after you are gone.
